Midnight Whispers 2023 Emoji Spoilers

Updated: Aug 10, 2023

The links provided in this post are unpaid links. I do not make commission off of them.

Midnight Whispers Box posted a whole gamut of emoji spoiler clues on their IG account on 11 April 2023 for the 2023 box picks.

The good news: we have clues. The bad news: these clues are hard. Unfortunately, some of them are also clues that only make sense to those who have read the book.

Since I have some theories but nothing concrete, I am working on a spoiler post in progress. All my theories will be posted here. Feel free to post theories in the comments...I have a feeling these spoilers are going to have to be figured by all of bookish spoilerdom.

Without further ado, what I have so far.

September 2023

Correct Guess:

The Mist King Series

Book 1: Of Mist and Shadows

Book 2: Of Ash and Embers

It took me quite a while of combing through stuff to find these. The covers were the giveaway for these, which is nice for those who haven't read the books. The author, Jenna Wolfhart, and Midnight Whispers Box follow each other on Instagram. Additionally, this is definitely a series with four books in it:

Taken from the author's website page for the series.

Previous Theory:

Realm of Dragons and Fae Series

Book 1: The Fae King's Assassin

Book 2: The Unseelie King's Rebel

Midnight Whispers follows Klapheke on Instagram, and I feel the moon on the covers lend a bit of relation to the emoji clue 🌗. The other emojis, 🗡 and 🗝 indicate the assassin aspect in the first book as well as the freedom from bondage to the temple and key to opening a portal aspect in the second. I've looked to see if I can find an indication as to how many books are in the companion series (all books are standalones in the same universe).

October/November 2023

My Guess:

Trial of the Sun Queen (Artefacts of Ouranos #1)

Midnight Whispers and Tuli follow each other on Instagram. This one could not be figured unless someone had read the book. The 🧼 is a direct reference to the first line(s) of the book: "That b@*#& took my soap." The MC, Lor, spends the opening of the book looking for stolen soap.

The series is a tetralogy (or quartet), with the second one, Rule of the Aurora King, out this past week (6 April 2023), and the third in the series, Fate of the Sun King coming 14 December 2023.

December 2023/January 2024

My Working Theory:

Book 1:

To Bleed a Crystal Bloom (Crystal Bloom #1)

Not only is this the first book in a series (one of the clues from the comment section on the emoji clues post), but it has also been guessed in the comments (2 days ago) and dm'ed to me as a possibility. It is also a book, according to both sources, that contains a clue 🎨 that one would only know if one read the book. Oh, and the author and Midnight Whispers follow each other on Instagram.

Book 2:

A Curse of Malice and Mercy (Courts of Malice #1)

Book 3:

Songs of the Wicked (A Dreamer's Misfortune #1)

Also a first book in a series. This one is another with emojis only those who have read the book will know. Though it claims to be a Little Mermaid retelling, the emoji clues hint at it being a Snow White retelling. The 🍎 is an obscure reference to a name in the book. There is an assassin (hunter) character that matches the 🏹. Also, Farran and Midnight Whispers follow each other on Instagram.

I'm pretty excited about all of these titles. I'd love to start reading them and fit them into my ever-expanding TBR.

What are some of your theories?

These are fabulous guesses! I pre-purchased the Glittering Gems box based on your prediction and was so happy I did. I would love to see SE if all the titles above. 🙌
